1) What inspired you to show support with the Avery Burton Foundation, and what about their work stands out to you?
Our inspiration to show support for ABF is multi-layered. Highest on that list is the courage and love behind it’s creation. The ability of a parent turning the most devastating event in their life into a force of hope, healing and empowerment is remarkable. You not only honor Avery’s legacy every single day, but you also provide safe and compassionate space for other to talk openly about mental health which can and will prevent this from happening to another family.
2) How does supporting mental health initiatives align with your own values?
Mental health is something I care about deeply as it is something I have struggled with personally. I do not share this part of me very often, and that is exactly part of the problem. I am of an era where we “suck it up” and “just push through no matter what.” I want to part of the cycle breaker, I want to help others see this path does not serve anyone. Talking about mental health is not complaining (which is how I was raised to feel). The pivotal point for me was when I had two beautiful daughters and that is when I began taking my mental health seriously. I can not teach something, I do not have. In order to serve my daughters best, I had to serve myself first.
3) What impact do you hope your support of the Avery Burton Foundation will have on the Southern Nevada community?
Our vision is that supporting the ABF will have a ripple effect here in Southern Nevada. Removing the stigma that can sometimes come with this issue must be eradicated. We hope that having fundraising events that are fun, exciting, and engaging will help accomplish this. We hope it builds stronger, more connected community that prioritizes mental and emotional well-being!
